Teaching and learning mathematics and science in English in primary schools in the state of Johor, Malaysia

This article attempts to highlight the opinions of the public on the effectiveness of the use of English in teaching and learning Mathematics and Science (PPSMI) in primary schools in Johor. After nearly six years of its implementation, some people found out that the students have not demonstrated a good command of the language and the acquisition of knowledge of Mathematics and Science is seen to be declining. The teachers also do not seem to adapt well in the implementation. A group of respondents from among the headmasters and headmistress have given their views through a questionnaire and structured interview that showed the government's intention to strengthen the English language in teaching and learning Mathematics and Science did not show an impressive result. Thus, the study suggests that the government can try to give an option of using both languages in the implementation of this policy

Penilaian kepatuhan syariat islam dalam merekabentuk tanah perkuburan islam berkonsepkan taman teknologi

Tanah Perkuburan Islam di Malaysia telah mencapai banyak pembaharuan. Antaranya pembinaan Raudhatul Sakinah iaitu tanah perkuburan dalam taman. Pada peringkat awal, dua tanah perkuburan telah dijadikan tapak pembinaan iaitu Tanah Perkuburan Islam KL-Karak dan Tanah Perkuburan Islam Bukit Kiara yang diuruskan oleh Jabatan Agama Islam Wilayah Persekutuan (JAWI). Lanjutan dari itu sekumpulan penyelidik dari UTHM melakukan penambahbaikan melalui usaha merekabentuk Tanah Perkuburan Islam Berkonsepkan Taman Teknologi menggunakan dengan aplikasi Geographical Information System (GIS) sebagai nilaitambah dalam dalam proses pembinaan tanah perkuburan Islam yang lebih sistematik. Lokasi kajian ini terletak di Tanah Perkuburan Islam, Parit Raja, Batu Pahat. Perkembangan ini memerlukan memerlukan satu garis panduan yang jelas agar usaha yang dilakukan berada dalam ruang lingkup kepatuhan syariat Islam. Justeru kertas kerja ini dihasilkan bagi menilai kepa rekabentuk tanah perkuburan Islam berkonsepkan taman teknologi ini adalah selari dengan ketetapan syariat Islam. Pendekatan kajian ini menggunakan kaedah temubual, permerhatian dan kajian perpustakaan. Hasil dari analisis kajian, terdapat tiga aspek yang perlu diambilkira semasa merekabentuk tanah perkuburan berkonsepkan taman teknologi iaitu tujuan mengkebumikan jenazah, tujuan menziarahi kubur dan bentuk binaan di atas tapak perkuburan. Dapatan daripada kajian ini akan menjadikan rekabentuk Tanah Perkuburan berkonsepkan Taman Teknologi menepati syariat Islam, diterima serta dimanafaatkan oleh seluruh masyarakat Islam di Malaysia

Ibn Fadlan’s Role in the Islamisation of Bulghar society

Islam is the oldest established religion among Bulghar entity, the residents along the riverbanks of the Volga-Kama triangle. This valley was famous as the first Islamic country erected in the Eastern European region. The presence of Islam in the region has raised the name of the ruler of Volga Bulgaria and was reinforced by relationship with Baghdad. The Islamisation of the Bulghar society is relevant to the role played by Ahmad ibn Fadlan, the ambassador of the Abbasid government based in Baghdad. Therefore, this article aims to examine the role played by Ibn Fadlan in the Islamization of the Bulghar society. For this study, a qualitative method using historical descriptive approach was employed, which involved compilation and evaluation of the facts of the Risalah Ibn Fadlān. Data for this study were obtained through library research. The data analyses were conducted through texts and document analyses, as well as comparison method. This study finds that Ibn Fadlan plays an important role in the islamisation of the Bulghar society, not just as an ambassador of Abbasid government but as a teacher, preacher and counselor to the Bulghar king and the whole nation

A study on the effect of stroop test on the formation of students discipline by using the Heart Rate Variability (HRV) technique

Discipline refers to self-control and individual behaviour. Other than that, discipline is an important element in the formation of integrity level. The objective of the study is to assess the effects of using the Stroop test of biofeedback protocol in order to evaluate individual level of discipline. A clinical study has been conducted on 50 participants which is the participants is a undergraduate student from Universiti Malaysia Pahang, who were divided into two groups. First group is students get high achiever and second group is students get low achierver in academic. The Heart Rate Variability (HRV) technique has been used in the assessment of this protocol. The findings show that there was a positive relationship between the Stroop test and the students discipline that those who excelled managed to get higher score of LF spectrum as compared to HF and VLF, while the students with lower achievement showed higher score of VLF and HF spectrum than LF. In conclusion, this test is one of the tests that can be used in increasing the level of individual discipline

Analysis on social change among Bulghar society based on Risalah Ibn Fadlan 922 AD

The role of Islam in the forming of the society solidarity consisting of multi-ethnic backgrounds into a consistency ethno system is a great thing about the Volga Bulgaria that occupied by Bulghar society. The process of Islamization has become the main factors for social changes happened in the society. Thus, this writing is intended to analyse the social changes that occurred in the society that affected Bulghar society achievement, by referred to text analysis on Risalah Ibn Fadlan, 922 AD and some other sources related. For this study, the qualitative method using historical descriptive approach has been employed which involving compilation and evaluation of the facts of the Risalah Ibn Fadlān. Therefore, data onto this study were obtained through library research. The analyses on data study were conducted through texts and document analyses, as well as comparison method. This study finds islamization is the major factor contributing to the social change among Bulghar society. The social change in Bulghar society incorporating the changing of thinking to achieve development in education, the way of life, infrastructure, literature and the spirit of dacwah, the norms and values based on Islam, which the society adheres after becoming Muslim

PENGARUH ISLAM DAN ANJAKAN PARADIGMA PEMIKIRAN MELAYU: SATU TINJAUAN

The connection between Malay World and Islamic World could not be denied anymore. The historian claims that the success of Malay community thinking shows a correlation with the Islamic community factors. Furthermore, civilization elements in Islam is mentioned as a momentum factor to the paradigm shift of the Malay community in the region. Thus, this paperwork is a review paperwork that is meant to investigate the concept of civilization in Islam that has been influencing the intellectual thinking and Malay community. This study will also discover the effects of the concepts that brings to the paradigm shift among the new Malays. This study is a qualitative historical descriptive study , hence, the data collection was done through library research method. The collected facts regarding to the study was then analyzed through the induction and deduction method application. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the influence of Islam is the main factor that brings development and civilization of Malay community which also gives effects to the paradigm shift of the community
